The day we went shopping for her communion dress I couldn’t help but think of the day when we’ll be shopping for her wedding gown. It scares me a little to know that day will get here a lot sooner than I want it to. Her beautiful dress and veil made her look so much like a miniature bride. I suppose planning a party for her communion isn’t all that different from the someday wedding reception I’ll be helping her to plan. Just like at a reception, there was the decorated cake, a band for dancing and foods of all kinds to enjoy. We wanted to make this a day she would always remember, without going overboard on decorations or accessories. I also bought a girls pink photo album for her to have as her very own with pictures of her first holy communion day and the party with her friends and family. I did go to a bakery for her cake, but as far as the food, we didn’t use caterers, some of the ladies helped me out by preparing some dishes of their own to bring. We had fried chicken, potato salad, vegetables and a few different types of salads. We had a fantastic dinner to share with our family and our best friends. This party really meant a lot to our daughter and all of us had such a lovely time. We bought our daughter a very lovely gold cross and had her name put on it, and she got some very exquisite gifts from our friends and family too.

I couldn’t help but feel that this was a practice run for her wedding and reception. Someday, not too far away, we’ll be filling out invitations and picking out wedding accessories together. At least when it does come to that, I’ll know where to send her for her wedding supplies and accessories for her reception.
